My name is Nicole Ashley, and I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to write for Redeem the Time! When Anna reached out to ask me if I would be interested in co-writing for her new blog, I wasn’t sure if I would have the time (I’ll be a freshmen in Bible college pretty soon). However, Anna’s mission of “redeeming the time” caught my interest, and–through prayer–I realized that writing for a new audience is one way God is allowing me to do that.
For a bit of background, I’ve been blogging for three years this August on my own blog, CoCo’s Chitchat. I’ve been especially pouring into it this past year or so since I joined The Young Writer’s Workshop (which is where I met Anna). But as I’ve been thinking over what I hope to do with my writing as I enter college, I’ve sensed God asking me if I’m willing to follow Him somewhere new.
My first response was, “What?!? How could I possibly give up on my blog after I’ve given it so much? Do my efforts mean nothing to You?”
What I’ve come to realize, however, is that while my efforts do indeed matter to God, He cares most about my motives behind them. 1 Corinthians 13:3 (CSB) says, “And if I give away all my possessions, and if I give over my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.” Christ does not want my writing if He does not first and foremost have my heart.
This is an on-going thought process–one that isn’t ready to be shared in its entirety yet. To be honest, I’m not sure what will happen with my writing when the craziness of school starts. I may continue to blog on my site as well as here, or I may solely write guest posts. That’s for the Lord to decide.
All I know is that God has called me to be a writer, and for right now I feel peace about writing for Redeem the Time.
I am passionate about “mercy over sacrifice” and believe the gospel must be preached before anything else. I pray any articles you see from me would be grounded in biblical truth, always lead back to the gospel, and be a demonstration of God’s love for imperfect people. We are here for such a time as this, and I don’t want to miss a single moment in this life God has so graciously called us to live.
Some of the verses God has put on my heart to live by include Philippians 4:13, Jeremiah 33:3, and Matthew 10:27. He has given me such a love for Himself and His Word that I have decided to pursue a degree in Biblical and Theological Studies, and I hope to use that knowledge in whatever capacity He calls me to thereafter. I am so excited to see what He has in store for this next season of life!
I would love to connect with you further, either in the comments of this post or on my personal blog. I also run gospel-centered Instagram and Twitter accounts and try to encourage other friends in Christ through my mailing list. Basically, I want to take advantage of every platform He gives me to share the good news of Christ, because that’s the very best way to redeem the time!
I very much look forward to writing to you again soon, Lord willing. Until then, I encourage you to spend time in His Word and get to know Him for yourself–He is deserving of it!
It’s nice to meet you!
In Christ now and always,
